Abstract

The world wide increase in use of air conditioning systems in residential and industrial buildings has seen considerable growth in the last few years. However, it has shown to have adverse effects on the environment as well as tremendous rise in energy consumption while maintaining thermal comfort. So, focused investigation towards efforts to identify alternatives to traditional vapour compression air conditioning systems are required to lower the energy consumption towards cooling. Desiccant assisted evaporative cooling (DEC) is one such encouraging system, yet research into its use is still at an initial stage and it needs to be investigated further. The present review focuses on effective use of desiccant-based evaporative cooling systems in comfort cooling that are uses mostly the solid-based desiccant.
