Training on Herbicide Usage in Ogbomoso Agricultural Zone
Abstract
This study evaluated training on herbicide usage in Ogbomoso agricultural zone. Specifically, personal characteristics of farmers, respondents usage of herbicide and training on herbicide usage status of the respondents were investigated. Multistage sampling procedure was employed for this study. The first stage involved random selection of two Local Government Areas from Ogbomoso agricultural zone. The next stage was random selection of two villages from each Local Government Areas. The next stage involved random selection of 30 respondents from each village. A total of 120 respondents were interviewed in this study. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics.
Over 80% of the farmers in the zone cultivated more than 2 ha while about 60% had more than 7 ha. The highest (45.13%) number of respondents applied herbicide twice in the growing season. Most (88.33%) of the respondents received training on herbicide categories and considerable number (80%) of respondents received training on introduction of new herbicides. It is concluded that considerable number of respondents received training on introduction of new herbicides.
