Abstract

This research was conducted in order to identify the determinant factors in designing development training programs.  This study is significant to the training providers, school administrators particularly the ministry of education and teachers.  The conceptual and theoretical frameworks identified the teacher’s profile, type of training, number of hours and quality of training as an independent variable, while the teacher’s development is the dependent variable.  This study was limited only to secondary teachers using a quantitative method of research. Closed-ended questionnaires using the Likert scale were distributed to 367 respondents of whom 275 accomplished and returned them. The validity and reliability of the questionnaire were pilot-tested, resulted in Cronbach’s Alpha of 0.929. Different statistical tools were used to analyze the data namely frequency distribution, weighted mean, ranking, percentage, and the Pearson Moment Correlation Coefficient. The results of the study showed that it partially rejected the hypothesis that the profile has no significant relationship on the teacher development, and rejected the remaining hypotheses that the quality, type and training hours have no significant relationship on the teacher’s development. It is recommended that future research will be conducted using other levels in education such as primary, elementary and well college levels. Similar research can also be conducted in other fields such as for engineers, accountants, doctors, among others.
