An Effective Project Selection Criteria: A Key to Successful Project Delivery for Small to Medium Enterprises in Kingdom of Bahrain

Abstract

Over the past twenty years, new challenges came up in the global economy as well as the national economy in the Kingdom of Bahrain. These changes made the government implement a new vision to support the national economy in 2030.  SME’s and their projects play a dynamic role to achieve one of the 2030 vision and its strategies. Entrepreneurship is one of the success factors which helps economic prosperity.SME’s projects perform an important role and the government supports investments and projects because they are part of the national economy, in addition to that facilitating the procedure of these projects helps in investment opportunities in commercial, tourism, service and other sectors in general. This research is determined to know the level of effectiveness of the project selection criteria and its link to project success, among the selected SME’s in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The study utilized a descriptive research design involving 60 respondents conveniently sampled from Small and Medium Enterprises in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The study found that project selection criteria are significantly related to project success indicators. In addition, the study also found that leadership in project management significantly mediates the relationship between project selection criteria and project success indicators
